China-US textile talks make progress, but no deal

China and the United States have made "good progress" toward a potential
trade deal that could curb billions of dollars in clothing imports from China,
but differences remain, U.S. negotiators said on Tuesday.

"We have made good progress in our discussions over the past couple of days,"
lead U.S. negotiator David Spooner said in a statement announcing talks would
continue late Tuesday evening. "Although we still have differences, we feel that
additional time to work on the issues would be beneficial."
A textile industry source, speaking on condition he not be identified, said
the two sides would probably have to hold at least one more round of talks to
reach a final deal.
"It doesn't look like anything will be completed in this negotiation," the
industry aide said.
The current talks could continue on Wednesday, but it's also possible the two
sides will instead announce dates for a new round of talks, another source said.
