Grizzlies defeat Lakers 100-99 in overtime

LOS ANGELES - Damon Stoudamire had 25 points and nine assists, Pau Gasol
added 24 points and 13 rebounds, and the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Los Angeles
Lakers 100-99 in overtime Wednesday night.

time in 20 all-time games against the Lakers in Los Angeles, the Grizzlies
opened overtime with a 10-2 run after never leading in regulation.
Kobe Bryant, who finished with 45 points, brought Los Angeles back within one
point on a layup with 24 seconds left, but he missed another layup in the waning
seconds and Chris Mihm's putback bounced off the rim.
Bryant, who scored seven points in overtime, finished 13-of-37 from the
floor.
Eddie Jones had 17 points for Memphis before being ejected for jawing at
officials with 6 minutes remaining in regulation and the Grizzlies down by seven
points.
Devean George scored 18 points for the Lakers, and Mihm had 15 points and 11
rebounds. Lamar Odom grabbed 15 rebounds to go with his nine points.
Stoudamire hit consecutive 3-pointers, the second with 28 seconds left in
regulation, to tie it 88-all.
Bryant then bounced an 18-footer off the rim, and the Grizzlies' Dahntay
Jones missed from 3-point range at the buzzer ending regulation.
The Grizzlies also were without Mike Miller and Shane Battier at the finish.
Both fouled out.
With the Lakers up 79-74 and 6 minutes left, Memphis coach Mike Fratello and
Jones drew consecutive technical fouls and Bryant made the free throw both times
to extend the lead to seven points.
Bryant had been called for a flagrant foul with 8:24 to play for elbowing
Miller in the face as Miller drove the lane.
Trailing by eight at halftime, Memphis tied it at 66 on Miller's 3-pointer
with 1:33 remaining in the third quarter. Bryant made one of two free throws
shortly later and Los Angeles' lead was 67-66 heading into the final quarter.
Bryant scored 10 in the third quarter, making 3-of-5 from 3-point range. He
was hit in the face by Miller while the Grizzlies' guard was driving in the
second quarter, and went to the dressing room with a one-inch gash over his left
eye. He had the cut bandaged and quickly returned to the game before halftime.
Bryant had 16 points by the intermission and the Lakers were up 54-46.
