Ethan Hawke has complained he didn't enjoy being married to Uma Thurman, because she was too famous.

The Training Day actor - who split from the Kill Bill actress in 2004 after he was caught having an affair with Canadian model Jen Perzow - claims being in a relationship with the attractive Hollywood star was hard work.

He told Parade magazine: "To be married to another famous person was a huge pressure - one I didn't enjoy. And it had nothing to do with her."

Despite a messy divorce, which was finalised in 2005, Ethan refuses to utter a bad word against the mother of his children, eight-year-old Maya and Levon, four.

He added: "She's my children's mother. You have to keep that in mind above anything else."

Ethan, 36, also confessed that fatherhood was his most challenging role. He said: "It's the only role that if I fail, I will consider my life a failure."

Earlier this year, Uma revealed that she was still in love with her ex-husband.

The actress said: "I don't think love ends actually. I wish it did, but I don't think it really does."
