Clear water and clean beaches have returned to the coastal town of Huangqi after professional cleaners were hired to clean up waterborne trash.

Huangqi town, Lianjiang county in Fujian province relies heavily on its fishery and aquaculture industries which had been damaged by the problem of rampant drift trash.

In January, the town brought in a team to clean waterways on a daily basis at the central fishing port and nearby fishing zones and aqua farms. The team is also responsible for collecting garbage from residences along the shoreline, and from fishing vessels and fish rafts.

Recently, Fujian’s coastal areas increased their investment in drift trash treatment and developed an integrated working method to address the drift trash problem.
