London is known as an advocate of young and cutting-edge designers, and provides ample opportunities to fledging Chinese designers.

"London Fashion Week is very keen to encourage new designers, unlike Paris, which features more established brands. As long as you have talent and creative designs, you can showcase your work in London. And that includes a growing number of Chinese designers," says Wei.

"Chinese designers create elements based on their understanding of Eastern and Western aesthetics, to become more acknowledged internationally," she adds.

Many widely-recognized Chinese designers today made their debuts and first gained the attention of the international fashion industry through the London Fashion Week.

Dalian-born designer Haizhen Wang, also a Central Saint Martins alumnus, was the first Chinese designer at London Fashion Week in 2012.

Wei's partner, Sun, was among a dozen Chinese designers at the recent London Fashion Week. The Chinese formed part of the 140 international designers who displayed their collections in showrooms, alongside the catwalk.

Five years ago, theater arts student Sun left Shanghai to study in London College of Fashion. She established her label By Sun in 2014, a year after her graduation.

Sun, 28, debuted her work at London Fashion Week last September, and returned this February, with a more mature collection, hoping to attract more buyers and fashion editors to her brand.
