第四輪朝鮮核問題六方會談業已在8月7日宣布休會。這個階段的會議未能發表人們所期待的共同文件，但在會后由中國副外長武大偉宣布的《主席聲明》顯示，六方一致同意用和平方式解決朝鮮半島無核化問題是共同目標，下一階段會談將在8月29日開始的那一周恢復。外電報道如下：After

13 straight days, diplomats from the United States, North Korea and four other
Asia-region powers decided Sunday to take a recess from talks aimed
at getting North Korea to dismantle its nuclear program.
The six-party talks have so fair failed to result in an agreement. The
sticking point, officials said Sunday, was North Korea's refusal to
abandon all its nuclear programs.
"The issue of getting rid of nuclear weapons should be an obvious one,
should be an easy one," said Assistant Secretary of State Christopher
Hill, the U.S. envoy to the talks.
But, he said, given the fact that North Korea had been involved in
nuclear weapons programs for more than 20 years, that decision was
"difficult" one for them.
Sticking point意為“頂住點，關鍵，癥結”，尤指可能造成僵局的要點、問題或形勢。
據悉，本輪六方會談開始前，有關各方曾在是否要繼續六方會談，六方會談是否仍由六方參加等一系列重大問題上發表過各自的主張，各方分歧甚大。在這種背景下，有關六方重新肯定六方會談的重大意義和價值，而且聚到一起認真會談，并確立通過和平手段解決朝鮮半島無核化是各方的共同目標，這本身便是一個巨大成就。
