 London, the capital of Britain, is located at the southeast of England, cross Thames River downriver both banks. Over 7 million people live there and the population ranks No.1 in Britain. It is a national centre for politics, economy, transport, trade and culture. Plus it is the biggest harbour in the country and one of the international financial centres. Reasons such as its many heritage site, rich history, combination of different cultures and various attractions help London stand out and become one of the most attractive cities in the world.
The city of London only covers 1.6 square kilometres of land. It has more than 2,000 years of history and has always been the capital for the country and the formal home for the royal family. Greater London maybe divided into different areas: Central London, West London, East London and South London, the port region and the suburb and so on. Each area has its own characteristic. Many Victorian style buildings can be found in the city. In the urban district, the postal service telecommunication centre is the highest building which heights is about 189 metres.
As a symbol of the city, Thames River is the lifeline of the city, is continuous for more than 300 kilometres, the scenery from both side of the banks is beautiful. There are altogether 28 bridges across the river and link the two banks together. The most beautiful and attractive bridge is the London Tower Bridge. The design is unique and both two giant bridge piers are 5 floors buildings. The top layers of the double tower are linked by a 140 meters long pedestrian bridge.
London is the city that combines old and new together. On one side, there are studded with palaces, court gardens and ancient buildings. On the other side, modern buildings and architectures are on the street. Apart from these, London is also famous for its rich culture, museums, art galleries and West end shows, which symbolise London. London as a true international city, it offers sights and activities that will keep any visitor mesmerise.
