Roger Federer is delighted to be welcoming his first child while still in the prime of his tennis career, the Swiss star said on Saturday.
"I always had the dream that if I have a child I hope I have it early enough so he can see me playing," said Federer, who announced on Thursday that he and girlfriend Mirka Vavrinec are expecting their first baby this summer. "So this is very exciting."
Despite the inevitable disruptions in a household that includes a baby, Federer said he didn't think his tennis would suffer, and he'd have plenty of time for family life.
"I think it's not going to really disturb my mindset on tennis a whole lot," he said. "I've always made sure that my schedule is (to) get away from tennis a little bit and then come back when I'm ready to play again.
"I think it's going to be pretty much the same. I don't really have to adjust a whole lot. If it does something to me, I think it's going to motivate me to play for a long time."
Federer, 27, was cagey on exactly when the baby is due, saying only in the summer.
"Summer is a big word, yeah," said Federer. "I'm not going to say any more."
In the meantime, Federer said he was enjoying the building excitement.
"For me, this is not a massive shock, but when it does happen, it defintely changes your mindset. All of a sudden you're hoping everything goes well, whereas before you're just joking about it.
"From this respect, I'm excited that the baby comes out healthy and everything goes OK.
"Other than that, it's just happiness."

他說：“我一直有個夢想，那就是如果有孩子的話，希望能早一些，這樣他就能看我打球了。這真是令人激動。”費德勒于上周四宣布他與女友米爾卡?瓦夫琳奈克將于今年夏天迎來他們的第一個孩子。
盡管有了孩子后會有一些不可避免的干擾，但費德勒稱這不會影響他打球，另外他將會有很多時間來陪家人。
他說：“我覺得這不會使我在網(wǎng)球上分心。我在時間安排上總會給自己留點空閑，等我準備再上場時，我又會回來。”
“我覺得不會有什么不同。我真的不需要去做太多的調(diào)整。如果要說真對我有什么影響的話，那應(yīng)該是孩子的降生會激勵我打更長的時間。”
27歲的費德勒沒有透露孩子確切的預(yù)產(chǎn)期，只是說在今年夏天。
他說：“夏天已經(jīng)夠具體的了，我不會再說什么。”
費德勒還稱他現(xiàn)在很享受這種慢慢積累的興奮感。
“對于我來說，這并不是一個特大驚喜，但是當它真的發(fā)生時，那肯定會改變你的想法。突然之間你會希望一切都能進展良好，盡管你之前還在開著玩笑。”
“從這個方面說，如果孩子生下來很健康，一切順利，那我就會很激動。”
“除此之外，那就是幸福了。”
