It is glorious springtime in Beijing and the city's great suburban outdoors beckon. Willow trees are sprouting new life and the harsh winter winds are changing to gentle breeze.
People are leaving behind the choking chaos and heading for greener pastures in suburban Beijing to enjoy cleaner air and more natural scenery.
They are camping, climbing, fishing or just taking in the sights of the changing season.
One of the great outer city attractions is YouGuShenTan (Deep pool alone the gorges), located 75 km from the city. This place is the most famous natural resort in the Huairou district, in Northeast Beijing.
Mountains are covered in colorful fields of flowers and a waterfall provides a relaxing venue for those wanting to escape the city rush.
The steep mountain cliffs and gorges, high quality mineral water, and dense foliage on the mountains provide the cleanest air in the city.
Another attractive spot is Yanqihu Lake (Swan Lake). The spot gets its name from the flocks of wild geese, white cranes and other rare migratory birds that make their home here each spring.
Surrounded by mountains on three sides, the lake is calm and clear, making it ideal for bird life.
A large-scale water recreation center has been built allowing visitors the chance to appreciate the scenery by boat or from a mountain pavilion.
In the evening, visitors can also watch movies, which are screened on the waterside.
Organized dances are also on offer.
The district is also famous for its rainbow trout and visitors can catch their own fish and have a restaurant cook it up.
