There will be a revolutionary tinge to Chinese tenor Li Shuangjiang's May 14 concert at the National Center for the Performing Arts.

Named The Red Star Enlightens My Way to Fight Battles, the event will feature a couple of popular "red songs" sung for the PLA soldiers last century.

Li (pictured right) and his fellow soldiers and students will sing various famous revolutionary songs, including I Love the Wuzhi Mountains And I Love the Wanquan River and Ideal Is the Lasting Flame.

Best known for his military songs and now the head of the Military Music Institute, Li is a household name in China, especially among the elderly and middle-aged group.

Also performing will be the PLA Symphony Orchestra and Red Star Chorus of the PLA Art Academy. The orchestra, comprising many military performers and instrumental players, singers and artists, has gained great artistic prestige in Chinese military music. The chorus was founded in 1995 and is made up of students from the Music Department of the PLA Art Academy. They have already performed at major events, including the celebration of Hong Kong's return to China, the 50th birthday of China and the PLA's 80th anniversary.
