Deals on set meals

Some last-minute seats are still available as the 6th China Restaurant Week－a semiannual feast of delicacies in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen－continues through March 22. The DiningCity.cn collaboration with Citibank China includes about 400 top restaurants, from independents to affiliates of high-end hotels, in the downtown areas of the four mainland cities. Booking via DiningCity.cn will be available for premium packages of three courses for as low as 58 yuan ($9.30) for lunch, and 148 yuan for dinner.

Ride for an appetite

The Schoolhouse will be serving locally grown and prepared food as part of its annual Bohai or Bust Charity Bike Ride on April 18. Participants will start at the new venue, the Brickyard Retreat, and riders can savor the breathtaking backdrop of the Mutianyu Great Wall as they cruise along one of three self-guided bike trains. Afterward, there is a relaxing lunch with a live band. In the past five years, the bike ride has raised nearly 113,800 yuan for elderly people living in the Mutianyu area. Participants must arrange for bikes on their own. A round-trip bus service from Star City Mansion (near the 798 art zone) is available.

A meaty dilemma

You're having a meal with three friends, and a platter of ribs is all eaten－except one. Everybody's eyeing that last rib. What would you do to get it? That's the question behind a video promotion for Ribs, a new casual restaurant at the Shangri-La, Guangzhou. We won't give away how the naked display of greed evolves－you'll have to see for yourself online. But when you head over for the baby-back pork ribs－marinated with barbecue sauce, Cajun spices, apple juice and a dozen other ingredients, and "home-smoked with a lot of love by the chef for more than six hours"－go with friends who are less competitive at the table.

Foaming pleasure

Looking for the perfect place to watch the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens next week? Look to Captain's Bar at the Mandarin Oriental, which will be tapping a signature brew, Captain's Bar Beer, on Monday in anticipation of the March 27-29 games. Brewed fresh locally by Young Master brewery, it's made with German malt and a blend of aromatic European-style hops. Each pint (HK$89 or $12.60) will be served up in one of the hotel's monogrammed silver tankards.
