Makeup and hair: what's in and out for 2006

Tip 3: Naturally matted skin is in. Dewy, shiny, cakey and overly powdered
skin is out.
"The product technology we have today is so good that you can look very
natural while wearing makeup. We definitely are not going back to the heavy
foundation and matte powders of 15 years ago," says Jay. "No wall-to-wall
carpeting, as I call that look. Instead, we want a natural-looking skin that
also appears done."
For this look, use a tinted moisturizer or foundation very lightly only as
needed. The distinction between barely there natural and "done" natural is
preparation, Jay points out. Always moisturize before applying foundation on
your skin, particularly your T-zone or problem areas. Jay suggests investing in
a high-end silicon primer and applying it under the foundation. It will keep
makeup from settling into fine lines.
Tip 4: Bronzer is in. Blush is out.
After achieving a smooth finish on your skin with light moisturizer and
foundation where needed, he suggests bringing out the dimensions of your face
with bronzer. "Bronzer is literally the most underrated and underused product,"
says Jay. "Women don't know how to apply it usually. But if you use it
strategically, you'll see a huge difference." For examples of how not to use
bronzer, Jay points to the always tan-looking Paris Hilton. "It's way too
overdone," he says.
So what complexion should everyone strive for in 2006?
Still glowing, of course, but slightly more "finished," or matte, according to
Jay.
Tip 5: Groomed and styled romantic hair and daring modern takes on the
'60s mod style are in. The verging on unkempt style of 2005 is out.
Jay predicts a somewhat seismic shift in hair this year. While 2005's
bohemian chic style - loose, wavy and natural - will live on in a slightly more
shaped and refined "romantic" style, the real trendsetters will be going for
modern mod looks.
