Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), the largest integrated circuit original equipment manufacture in Chinese mainland announced that the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 processor using its 28-nanometer chips has successfully been used in mainstream smart phones.
The company successfully manufactured a Qualcomm process in the end of last year. This utilization of Snapdragon process is an important step of the commercial application of the 28-nanomter chips.
Qiu Ciyun, CEO and president of SMIC said, “The news is meaningful to the entire industrial chain. It is a new breakthrough of Chinese mainland manufactured chips, as it is the first time the chips used as parts and accessories in mainstream smart phones. It is also the beginning of manufacturing of smart phones using 28-nanometer chips in China.”
The Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 processor targets the general smart phone market. Comparing with processors using 40-nanometer chips, the processors using 28-nanometer chips have doubled logical density. In addition, the computing speed is improved by 20 to 30 percent. The power consumption is declined 30 to 50 percent.
