China, US hold simulated IP court
The seventh China-US simulated intellectual property court was held on June 19. Organized by China Intellectual Property Training Center and John Marshall Law School, this year's event focused on the trademark sector, in which Chinese and US judges and lawyers heard simulated cases using Chinese and US IP laws and procedures to compare their similarities and differences. Organizers said the event helps increase IP cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries.

TCM treatment gets closer to FDA approval
The US Food and Drug Administration granted a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat cancer approval to enter the third phase of clinical trials in the United States. Known as Kanglaite Injection, the drug was developed by Zhejiang Chinese Medical University and contains extracts from the seed of coix, a grasslike relative of maize. It has been used as a cancer treatment in China since 1995 and is the first TCM injection treatment to undergo the FDA approval process.

S Korean firms receive IP training
Last week, an IP training program was held in Qingdao for South Korean companies with offices in China. More than 80 executives and IP supervisors took part. The program invited experts and officials from the State Intellectual Property Office to give lectures on patent applications, examination, management and lawsuits. The event was a result of the China-South Korea conference on IP training agency cooperation last year, aiming to increase the companies' IP awareness.

Fake sports clothes sellers caught
Last week, police from the city of Humen announced that they cracked down on a group selling counterfeit Nike, Adidas and Puma clothes that involved total potential retail value of more than 6 million yuan ($966,600). The police raided two locations in early June and seized more than 20,000 items of clothing and detained nine suspects. The head of the group, surnamed Zhou, said they purchased leftover products from local clothing factories, labeled them with fake trademarks and sold them online.

Pilot park launches new website
The National Intellectual Property and Creative Industry Pilot Park launched an IP service website on June 26. It aims to provide customers with global patent information, notify them of the latest technologies and help them find patent-related partners. The comprehensive IP service center will help companies in the province strengthen their sense of using patent information and allow them to better use patent search and analysis tools, a park official said.

Experts discuss cultural heritage preservation
More than 1,000 intangible cultural heritage items were displayed in Yangliuqing ancient village from June 26 to 28. The items, from regions along the Beijng-Hangzhou Grand Canal, included silk flower crafts made by residents from Tianjin's Caozili town, Beijing dough modeling crafts and carved lacquerware from Tongzhou district in Beijing. Experts were invited to discuss ways to protect, inherit and develop the items at a forum on June 26.
