Chinese collection to be translated to English
A collection of Chinese geographical indication protection products will be translated into English by a Singaporean publishing house, according to the China Zhijian Publishing House, which issued the Chinese version. The collection, recently finished by the State Quality Inspection Administration, includes more than 1,000 products with national geographical indications, as well as 10,000 related pictures and explanations of geographical environment, cultural backgrounds and brand construction.

Lanzhou police resolve criminal piracy case
Lanzhou police last week announced that they had solved the province's first criminal case that involved copyright in recent years. A local writer informed the police last year that he had seen a pirated version of one of his books sold in bookstores and online since 2007. The police seized suspect Shi Xinghai in Guangdong province in June, who was later found guilty of publishing four pirated books since 2005, making illegal income of nearly 1 million yuan ($157,500). They also shut down two illegal printing factories in Lanzhou.

Guzhen township opens litigation service office
The Guangzhou Intellectual Property Court unveiled a litigation service office in Guzhen township in the city of Zhongshan, the first township-level IP service institution in China. The office will receive complaints and provide legal consultation, case registration and searches, and mediation. Guzhen is a nationally renowned base of lighting facilities manufacturing, and Zhongshan has been involved in one-fifth of all the cases at the Guangzhou IP court since its establishment late last year.

Students learn cultural heritage from craftspeople
As part of an art and sports festival for primary and middle school students in the city of Jiaozuo, a display of Henan's provincial intangible cultural heritage items was held at Penyao Primary School in Wangzhuang township. The school's students demonstrated skills including pottery making, dough carving, traditional dance and martial arts. Skilled craftspeople were invited to local schools to promote intangible cultural heritage.

Campaign transfers declassified military patents
A match-making campaign was organized in Hangzhou to transfer about 100 declassified military patents. The technologies covered vehicles, electronic equipment and automatic control systems. Four military industry organizations, two military patent agencies and more than 50 privately owned companies in the province were involved in the event.

UK, Alibaba remove fake products from website
The China-Britain Business Council and the Hangzhou-headquartered e-commerce giant Alibaba Group have removed counterfeit products valued at more than 8 million pounds ($12.3 million) from the Alibaba website since September 2014 when they formed a partnership, said Baroness Neville-Rolfe, the UK minister for Intellectual Property, at a Sino-British IP seminar in London. The minister also announced an annual investment of 65 million pounds for China-Britain IP research at the seminar.

Hunan culture displayed in Australian metropolis
An exhibition of intangible cultural heritage items from Hunan province is taking place at the China Cultural Center in Sydney, Australia. The exhibition, called "Amazing Hunan", displays 11 local traditional art and handicraft items, together with written explanations and photographs. In addition, inheritors of four cultural items, including paintings of the Miao ethnic group and paper-cutting, will provide live handicraft performances and interact with visitors. The exhibition began on Oct 17 and is scheduled to end on Nov 15.
