Key tourism projects are proceeding smoothly in Dehong.
By September, a series of key projects, including Mengbanaxi Treasure Park (Mengbanaxi is the language of the Dai ethnic group, meaning wonderland), Moli Tropical Rainforest, the Golden Tower in Menghuan (Mangshi City), have been proceeding smoothly. The total amount of investment in the projects has reached 850 million yuan. Another 620 million yuan will be invested to further promote the development of culture and entertainment in Dehong. Projects include the second phase of the Menghuan Golden Tower, Mengbanaxi Treasure Park, and other newly developed resorts, such as Mangshi Jewelry Town, Peacock Lake Holiday Resort, and so on.
The Dehong government has not only laid emphasis on the current construction of important tourism projects, but also made efforts to attract new investments. A number of investment groups have signed contracts to help develop tourism, including Yunnan Investment Group, Zhejiang Dahua Construction Group, etc. Projects such as Aochen Mangshi International Tourism Town, Phase II of the Moli Tropical Rainforest will benefit from a total amount of 20.425 billion yuan of investment.
The Dehong government is actively preparing to equip Dehong with numerous projects to shape it into a comprehensive tourist destination. They aim to build each tourist site according to its specialties and unique identity.
Now that Ruili River and Daying River have been declared a National Scenic Spot, the city of Ruili and Mangshi are two outstanding tourist cities of China, three scenic spots with the level of AAAA, 2 with AA, and 1 with A. From January to August 2010, the Dehong Autonomous Prefecture has received 2.82 million tourists with a gross income of 2.56 billion yuan. During the 7-day National Day holiday, the number of tourists reached 293 thousand, up by 13.7% over the same period last year. The total revenue was 146.97 million yuan, up by 15.4% over the same period last year. The self-driven tour was especially popular. Growing by 77.4%, the number of private cars reached 17,099.
