Above all, China needs to realize food self-sufficiency and keep the food self-sufficiency rate at 95 percent. This does not mean that all grain products have a high self-sufficiency rate, as this would be unrealistic and would require a great deal of investment in resources, and would impact the environment and the country's economy.
On the one hand, we need to guarantee self-sufficiency in rice and wheat, which is the bottom line for China's agricultural production. On the other hand, China can use foreign resources, such as importing food products like soybeans and corns, to construct a continuous, stable and secure grain supply chain.
