Abstract: Scientific and rational utilization of resources and location advantages are important driving factors to achieve sustainable industrial development in Hohhot city. Being adjacent to the outside world in pushing ahead with opening up, the city boasts relatively convenient transportation facilities, important geographic locations for economic development, abundant and low-cost power energy resources, diversified agricultural products resources and rich historical and cultural tourism resources, all of which have contributed a solid foundation for future industrial development. But it needs to be pointed out that there remain some problems to be addressed. For instance, the city’s role in terms of its regional advantages to drive the development of its surrounding areas is not given full scope, the industrial parks’ planning and layout are somewhat improper and strong resource and environmental constraints on industrial development seriously affect the optimal allocation of its resources and the full play of its advantages. In the future, the city needs to strengthen economic ties with other regions and further tap into the potential of its regional advantages. At the same time, efforts need to be made to strengthen the planning and layout of various industrial parks, promote the concentration of relevant factors, improve the efficiency of factor allocation, advance the transformation and development of industrial enterprises and actively adapt to the constraints imposed by resources and environment so as to realize a virtuous cycle of economic development and environmental protection.
