The Xiamen Torch High and New Technology Industrial Development Zone is one of three national new high-tech industrial zones and is based on technology innovations and introductions and the commercialization and industrialization of scientific, technological developments.

It has had an outstanding performance and has won national awards and titles, including Outstanding National New High-Tech Industrial Zone, National Unit with Excellent Scientific Management, and Advanced Management Unit for the Torch Program Software Industrial Base. It has sub-parks for developing major projects and a new high-tech industrial cluster for advanced manufacturing. More than 20 of the global Top 500 are in the zone, including ABB, Dell, Panasonic, Toshiba, and Hitachi, and at least 2,000 leading domestic technology companies, such as Lenovo, TPK Holding, and Admiral Overseas.

Industrial goals

The zone is becoming an international development are with an advanced industrial pattern and plans to improve its companies and investment quality, look for high-level programs, and make optimal use of its structure. Total output value of its three major industries -- photo-electricity, electronic information, and power equipment -- accounts for more than 90 percent of its total. It also deal with software, biochemistry, precision machinery, and new materials, with a photo-electronic display cluster as one of 50 national industrial trial clusters and the only one in Fujian province, and China’s only Photo-electricity cluster trial. In addition, its software and power equipment industries have become a part of the nation’s Torch Program.

Pillar industries

Photo-electricity

This covers optical displays, illumination, optical-electronic devices, optical communications, optical storage, and optical input and output. Its photo-electricity has a complete industrial chain covering all parts of the industry.

Electronic information

This has an information-integrated manufacturing industry producing computers, mobile phones, digital cameras, digital audio - video devices, vehicle communication devices, sensors, and navigation and positioning systems, with a number of related companies producing electronics, accessories, spare parts, external devices, and IT services. The zone wants to become China’s largest computer production base and largest mobile phone R&D base, and the world’s largest touch technology products center.

Power equipment

This covers power transmission and distribution equipment and power control equipment, with a number of competitive high-tech companies covering low-to-mid-to-high-volt devices, power equipment accessories and spare parts, and new product research, production, manufacturing, and sales. It has several power industry clusters that complement each other in products, resources, and functions and has become a top power equipment research and production base with an international influence.

Featured industries

Software

This is part of a national Torch Program software industrial program with a large number of key software companies with top products and many talented personnel.

Biochemistry

This involves bio-medicines, diagnostic reagents, genetic vaccines, genetic medicines, and other medicines. The industry gives priority to key bio-technology applications and their industrialization, such as genetic testing and disease treatment.

New materials

Major new materials in the zone include wolfram products, carbon fiber composites, and membrane, functional polymer, luminous material, bio-project, and ocean-friendly corrosion-resistant materials, green high-performance industrial coatings, and architectural coatings.

Investment projects and capital

The zone welcomes investment projects in photo-electricity, electronics information, power equipment, software, biochemistry, and new materials and hopes to introduce LCD, LED and support industries for a complete industrial chain. Other projects providing services for new high-tech companies are also encouraged to settle here.
