Fuzhou city has made some adjustments in its medical insurance coverage in favor of those insured, Strait News reported on Wednesday.

Starting on July 1, the annual reimbursement cap for general out-patient services for every insured will be raised from 600 to 1,000 yuan ($96-160), said the local Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.

Government subsidies for insured urban residents will be raised from 300 to 340 yuan a year.

Another adjustment comes in copayments. Previously, copayments were 1,500 yuan per person, and the government paid 65 percent of any amount exceeding 1,500 yuan. But under the new rules, the government will cover 65 percent of the entire bill as long as it exceeds 1,500 yuan.

For example, if a man is charged 1,600 yuan in medical fees, he would pay 1,535 yuan (1,500 yuan plus 35 percent of the surplus 100 yuan). But now he will only have to pay 560 yuan, which equals 35 percent of the entire 1,600 yuan, starting on July 1.

The threshold of hospitalization costs shared by medical insurance will be lowered from 600 to 300 yuan. A hospitalized person will have to pay only 300 yuan plus 8 percent of the surplus amount, according to the new coverage.
