651 Taiwan companies will attend the 7th cross-Straits (Xiamen) culture industry expo, which will kick off in Xiamen on Oct 24. The number of attendees is at an all time high, according to the officials who were present at the 2nd press conference of the expo held on Oct 22.

Chen Qiuping, the chief of Fujian Provincial Department of Culture, said at the conference that the fair will provide 781 exhibition booths for Taiwanese companies. And this will be the first time to bring in artists and their work from 8 countries including Korea, Holland, India, Egypt, and the Kyrgyz Republic.

Song Zhiqiang, the deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office in Fujian Province, said that the number of Taiwan exhibition booths and companies accounts for 31.6 percent and 41.5 percent this year, which is more than that provided by mainland China. Additionally, the Taiwanese exhibitors come from 21 cities and counties in Taiwan, which is helpful in making visitors fully appreciate its attraction. Finally, well-known companies and organizations in the creative industries, high-schools, and artists will show up at the expo.

"All this indicates that the cross-Strait (Xiamen) culture industry expo has become an important platform for cross-Strait cultural exchanges and business investment,” Song added.

According to Zhou Mingrong, the secretary-general of the Asia-Pacific Cultural Creative Industry Association, Taiwan companies that have registered for the fair have increased by about 25 percent, which is a record this year. Moreover, they have made great efforts to put in a special appearance.

As Chen explained, it will also be the first time to charge Taiwan exhibitors a fee for registering for the segment called Taiwan Creative Shopping Festival, as a signal of the market-oriented approach of the expo.
