Wei began by agreeing whole-heartedly with the report to the 19th National Congress outlining a new era for China and the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

China's National Congress takes place every five years and ushers in the latest reports and plans for the future. Over the past five years, China's GDP has risen from 54 trillion yuan ($8.15 trillion) to 80 trillion yuan, making China the second largest economy in the world, and contributing over 30 percent to the world's total economic growth.

Mirroring the impressive figures at the national level, Fujian's economic aggregate for this year is expected to rise upwards of 1 trillion yuan at a growth rate of 56 percent over the past five years.

Wei said that the province has taken a series of steps to bring about these results. They include industrial transformation and upgrading, innovation-driven development, accelerating the development of people's livelihood and social undertakings and the construction of ecological civilization, deepening reform, and opening-up wider to the outside world.

He added that Fujian province has also established a project advance mechanism, an investment and financing market operation mechanism and a mechanism to cultivate key industries, which has helped to facilitate economic growth.

To implement the spirit of the 19th Party Congress and accelerate the development of Fujian province will be the urgent tasks over the next five years, Wei said.

Highlighting imbalanced development and improving the benefits gained from economic development, Wei said that as the economic aggregate is boosted, the province must also look to ensuring moderate prosperity for all.

He added that centering on supply-side structural reform, Fujian province will continue to promote industrial transformation and upgrading, build an ecological province, and address livelihood issues.

Wei also confirmed that the province will form a stronger more cohesive force within the Party in a bid to make sure that the tasks arranged at the 19th Party Congress will be effectively implemented.
