Promoting an ongoing land procurement project, Aoqian town, situated on the eastern part of Pingtan Island, is ready to embrace a brilliant future.

Various commerce markets, aquatic products processing factories, Taiwan farm products trade centers, schools, parks, hotels and other recreational facilities will rise up in an area covering 5 square kilometers adjacent to a passenger terminal and a fishing port, said a report on the local government website Friday.

Nearly 2,000 residents living in roughly 1,000 houses in a slew of villages within the area will have to move for the land project, said the report, adding that the relocation work is well under way.

A cluster of settlement houses are being built on an area of land covering 0.29 square kilometers that borders three villages affected by the land project. The settlements are being financed with an investment of 1.8 billion yuan ($292.2 million). Supporting facilities such as new roads, schools, supermarkets and community service centers are under construction as well.

A desalination plant, one of Fujian province’s major high-tech industrial programs, will be built near Guanjian village to develop seawater desalination technology, tidal energy and concentrated seawater treatment. It is expected to desalinate up to 10,000 tons of seawater after the completion of stage one.

Introduced as one of Fujian's major culture projects in 2013 with an investment totaling 6.5 billion yuan ($1.05 billion), Haitan ancient city is situated at the northern part of the Tannan Bay tourist resort in Aoqian town and occupies an area of 733 square meters. It is designed to become a tourist complex with traveler accommodation, shipping and recreational facilities.

The Dongao fishing port, which spans an area of 7 square kilometers near Yulou village, will be become a State-level port accompanied by an aquatic products tourist bazaar, a seafood street and a Taiwan farm products trade center. Sitting close to the passenger terminal, it will also provide services such as marine products uploading and loading, seafood processing and cold storage, logistics, trade markets and ship repair. What’s more, it will serve as a safe haven for ships during typhoons.
