A total of 18 fires have been reported in Pingtan county since the start of the winter – a higher number compared to the same period last year, and resulting in higher economic losses - the border forces said on Jan 14.

Experts advised local residents to identify potential ignition sources in their homes, to use gas in an adequately ventilated environment, avoid smoking on sofas or in bed – and to cut off power when they leave home.
