The construction of the Niuzhaishan Tunnel in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone is drawing to an end, according to workers.

The 868-meter northern section of the highway tunnel has been fully dug, and is slated to be put into operation in June after decoration and installation of the necessary facilities, said Xia Haijun, manager of the construction team.

The northern section will be completed sometime in mid-April, he added.

The digging of the tunnel started in November 2012. The 1,697-meter project will consist of a two-way, eight-lane tunnel linking urban and suburban districts.
