As the Pingtan Area of the Fujian free trade zones (FTZ) was launched on April 21, a bountiful of favorable policies were laid down on this very island in east China, taking on a new appearance for more investors, particularly from Taiwan, with its unique coexistence of the FTZ and comprehensive pilot zone(PCPZ).

Currently, the Pingtan FTZ is exploring 41 pilot projects and 128 experimental measures, hoping to streamline the overloaded approval procedures, put forward investment and management system reform and establish sustainable industry.

Li Dejin, the director of PCPZ’s administration praised Pingtan’s distinctive advantages . “ With the ‘double engines’ of FTZ and PCPZ, we are able to not only draw on the experience of the Shanghai FTZ, but originate policies regarding to Taiwan due to its geographic proximity.” Li marked.

“ We are genuinely emboldened by the establishment of Pingtan FTZ. From this day onwards, we, as investors from Taiwan, are allowed to set our base in Pingtan and develop online business which covers a wider range in the Chinese mainland. ” said Steven Ching .

In fact, online commerce has turned out to be one of the key industries in the newly-launched FTZ in Pingtan. Supporting facilities and infrastructure will be laid out, alongside upgraded services stretching from inspection and quarantine to tax affairs in the near future.

Ching collected his business license along with 15 other company directors on April 21. What impressed them was the efficiency of administrative approval procedures. “ We had to traipse from one department to another to get signs and seals we needed in the past, yet it only took 3 hours to complete the whole procedure this time, and only one seal was needed. It is a novel approach to me.” Ching said.

Ching shared a tremendous air of expectancy to the future of this brand new chapter of Pingtan. “ Cargo from Taiwan can be shipped to Pingtan by cross-Straits ferries. After simple inspection and quarantine procedures they can reach every corner of Fujian. I believe one day people from both sides can travel unrestrictedly.” Ching said.
