Pingtan couriers embrace their busiest working days right after China's Singles'Day shopping spree.

A courier company located next to the residential area named "World City" in Pingtan handled more than 20,000 packages on Nov 14, which is double the amount of packages it usually deals with per day.

Wang Kai, 28 years old, has worked as a courier in the city for over one year. When the reporter met Wang Kai, he was squatting on the ground scanning packages.

Wang said, "We usually spend a few moments to single out the most time-efficient route prior to delivering those packages."

Wang used to be a salesman, and with the recommendation of a relative began to work as a courier.

"The job is much tougher, but I am able to earn more than before." He said.

It is not freezing cold in Pingtan in Nov, but people still feel slightly chilly when going outside.

"Coldness is not a problem to me," Wang said, "We have to work as usual even during inclement weather to ensure the packages are delivered on time."

The interview was interrupted at times by calls from clients inquiring about the status of their packages.

"Please wait patiently and I will deliver your package right away,"Wang answered repeatedly with great patience

He told the reporter that sellers usually deliver the goods two days after the buyers place orders. Nov 14 is truly the busiest day for them.

"I have to deliver a total of about 700 packages today, and will maybe not have time for my lunch," Wang said with a bitter smile.

"I felt exhausted at the very beginning when I took the job and it seemed to me there were countless packages to be delivered, however, I have gotten used to it now as time goes by."

Wang revealed he earns 0.6 yuan for delivering a package and if a client lodges a complaint against him, it costs him a day's salary.

But the 28-year-old young man still retains his passion towards the job.

"In general, I'm satisfied with my current job especially when people say "thank you" to me after receiving their packages," he said.

At the end of the interview, Wang also shared a story with the reporter. On a bitterly cold winter morning, he was offered a bottle of boiled water by a middle-aged woman when making his delivery. At that time, he felt “warm and was deeply moved”.
