Guiyang is the first area to introduce the "Replace Gasoline with Liquefied Natural Gas" project, saving 37 million yuan ($5.95 million) annually for 1,850 city buses.
Natural gas is a safe and clean energy and produces much less carbon dioxide than coal. Although there are many difficulties in the promotion and implementation process, Guiyang has worked hard to overcome the obstacles for a cleaner environment, said Chen Bing, general manager of Guiyang Bus Company.
After successful implementation, emissions were reduced by 80 percent. Guiyang is the first city to establish a liquefied gas station in the country. It is also the city that consumes the most liquefied natural gas in China and the world. The practice has attracted the attention of Beijing, Shenzhen and Nanjing, who have sent representatives to learn from the experience.
The next step for Guiyang is to research and develop hybrid cars, which use a mixture of gasoline and natural gas and are more environmental friendly.
