Chetian village has a history of more than 400 years and it is rich in a kind of stone with unique blue shade, which is commonly called "blue stone". Therefore, the team decided to take blue stone as the major building material. "The building tells a story of stone," said Wei.
In his opinion, the cultural center should be the narrator of the village, so he insisted on applying the long-lost traditional methods to process the stones. He researched the historical documents and studied the processing methods to teach builders.
Three years later, the Chetian Cultural Center's construction was completed and opened to the public, echoing the surrounding masonry households. Local people of the Miao ethnic group hold different gatherings and activities for special occasions at the center.
