Pinggao Group Co Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of State Grid International Development Ltd. Its predecessor is
Pingdingshan High Voltage Switchgear Factory, founded in 1970. It is an R&D and manufacturing base of major high-voltage, extra-high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage equipment in China, a pillar enterprise for major technical equipment in the national electrical engineering industry, and a large national class I enterprise. It is the first high-tech high-voltage switchgear enterprise that passes the “double-high” certification of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Science and Technology in China. It has won a string of honors, such as the National May First Labor Award, National Advanced Unit in the Building of Spiritual Civilization, China Top 1000 Business Groups, National Top 500 Electrical Appliance Manufacturers, Top 100 in Chinese Mechanical Industry, Top 500 in Chinese Manufacturing Industry, and Top 10 Leading Enterprises in Chinese Electrical Industry. In 2009, it was granted the honorable title of Unit with Outstanding Contribution to UHVAC Demonstration Lines.
The company’s business covers the research, development, design, manufacturing, sale and testing of power transmission and distribution equipment, integration of related equipment, and service and project contracting. The core business is the manufacturing, R&D, sale and service of high-voltage, extra-high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage AC/DC switchgear equipment. It has more than 120 kinds of products in seven categories and 16 series.
The company has four branches and 14 wholly owned or controlled subsidiaries. Among them, Pinggao Electric Co Ltd is a listed company, and Henan Pinggao Toshiba High Voltage Switchgear Co Ltd and Pinggao Yaskawa Switch Apparatus Co Ltd are two Sino-Japanese companies. The head office of the company now has 7,695 employees and 6,930 in-service employees, including 855 engineering technical personnel (45 senior engineers, eight professor-level senior engineers, seven people with government allowance and nine top-notch talents in the city), 1,249 managerial personnel and 3,353 technical workers (174 technicians and senior technicians).
The company covers 1.15 million square meters of land and has a building area of 430,000 square meters. It has 1,695 pieces (sets) of processing equipment, including 103 pieces (sets) of CNC processing equipment. The process equipment has reached international advanced level. It owns internationally first-rate specialized production lines for manufacturing of insulators, silver plating of conductors, manufacturing and coating of enclosures, and manufacturing of rubber seals.
The company has solid R&D strength and strong ability in technical innovation. For many years, it has made major breakthroughs in key technical fields of high-voltage, extra-high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage power transmission and distribution equipment, and successfully developed China’s first 220kV open-type SF6 circuit breaker, 550kVSF6 circuit breaker, 220kV totally enclosed combined electrical apparatus and 800kV totally enclosed combined electrical apparatus, to fill the domestic gap. The performance of all main products of the company reaches leading international levels. All products possess core manufacturing technology and proprietary intellectual property rights and are made according to international standards. The 550kV SF6 circuit breaker won the only quality gold award in the Chinese UHV switchgear field, the circuit breaker of 220kV or above won the title of China Top-Brand Product, and Pinggao trademark (PG) was rated as China Well-known Mark.
The company’s products are widely used in key power projects in China. It has provided power transmission and distribution equipment for China’s first 550kV high-voltage AC transmission project, first 750kV UHV AC transmission project, first intelligent demonstration transformer substation with the highest voltage level - 750kV Yan’an Substation, the “West-East Power Transmission Project” and other national key projects. Pinggao Group also took the national lead in the R&D of 1100kVAC extra-high-voltage products and provided 1000kVGIS products for the national 1000KVAC testing and demonstration project Jindongnan – Nanyang - Jingmen. The company has the right to carry out foreign economic cooperation and foreign trade. Its products are sold to more than 30 countries and regions in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and South America. In addition to export by an agent and self-managed export of unit machines, the company also has independently contracted the construction of 10 GIS power plants in Syria, power plants in Vietnam and other complete sets of engineering projects with complete success.
On Feb 9, 2010, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission approved the application of the State Grid for transferring the state equity of Pinggao Group, symbolizing Pinggao officially becoming a member of the State Grid and standing at a new and higher starting point.
