The Liuyang Mountain (six goats mountain) and Tongtian River (river passing through heaven) scenic zone, located in Yaoshan town, Lushan county, Pingdingshan city, Henan province, is a part of the 800-mile Funiu Mountain Chain.
It sits next to Wenshu Temple, a 1,000-year ancient temple, in the east, Yaoshan Mountain (Stone Man Mountain), a national key scenic spot and national AAAA-level tourism zone, in the west, Shibadou (eighteen buttresses), precipitous mountains, in the south, and Fozu Mountain (Buddha Sakyamuni Mountain), in the north.
The scenic zone features convenient traffic, elegant landscapes, simple folk customs, picturesque scenery, high and steep mountains, dense forests, and over 100 tourist spots. It is a good destination for sightseeing, pilgrimages, entertainment and vacations.
Liuyang Mountain was named when the Patriarch Temple was constructed. Legend has it that in order to benefit the people and extend grace to residents of the midland, the patriarch decided to construct the great project at the steep Tianzhu Peak (heavenly pillar peak), which was inaccessible to goats. Since the project was too hard, the patriarch sent six magic goats to ship all the materials for the temple to the peak in one night. Local residents named the place Liuyang Mountain to thank the God of Heaven and memorialize the magic goats.
Tongtian River, falling 450 meters from the top to the bottom of the mountain, looks like a jade belt, crossing cliffs and gullies in surfs between the shadows throughout the year, like a river passing through heaven—hence the name, Tongtian River, which means “River Passing through Heaven.”
Liuyang Mountain is about 100 miles in perimeter. It is permeated with beautiful sceneries, including high mountains, gorges, a waterfall, flowing springs, mountain flowers, wild fruits, ancient houses and hermit hovels. Only when you are personally on the scene can you truly appreciate the views, and experience the magnificence of Liuyang Mountain and the elegance of Tongtian River. You will never feel tired of your high passions.
