Winter, with withered leaves and freezing wind, often transmits a desolate kind of scene. However, Jinxi town in Kunshan city, Jiangsu province, features a warm and pleasant winter with slow flowing rivers, soft love songs in the Suzhou dialect, and elegant guqin (seven-stringed zither) music.

In Chinese, Jinxi means a stream with brocade-like surface. The golden leaves, graceful music and fine rain contribute to its charming early winter scenery.

Jinxi is a typical water town in Jiangnan (the region south of the Yangtze River), an area with plenty of rain. Rain falling down on roofs, windows, plants, rivers and stone-paved paths makes a melodious sound. The whole town looks like a fairyland with the temples, bridges and pavilions obscured by mist.
