They got a first-hand experience of rural life in China on the second day during a visit to Liurudun village, where the students had a go at working the fields with traditional farming tools and trying some typical local dishes.

They were also treated to a fantastic Kunqu Opera performance staged by students at a local primary school. From gestures to voices, the young performers from Dianshan Lake Central Primary School seemed no less than experienced adults. "That's why learning Kunqu Opera must start from a young age," a student said.

The group from Tsinghua's last stop was the Shoulekang Old-Age Service Center, where elderly residents are provided with multiple kinds of care services. The scholars were especially interested in the room service there; they even volunteered to do a bit.

"I'm quite moved about the old-age service center, as the elderly residents are well cared for, are kept in good company, and they live a happy life while laying little burden on their families. It's a good lesson for African countries," said a Zimbabwean student Danai Mavunga.
