Situated in southeastern Jiangsu, and the center of Yangtze River Delta enjoying rapid economic development, Wuxi adjoins Taihu Lake to the south and the Yangtze River to the north. It is 128 kilometers away from Shanghai in the east and 183 kilometers away from Nanjing in the west.

The economy steadily grew making progress in 2016. The regional GDP grew by 7.5 percent, up 0.4 percentage point year-on-year. The total retail sales of consumer goods grew by 9.6 percent, up 0.4 percentage point year-on-year. The total output value of industrial sector above the statistics threshold, added value, and realized profits grew by 3.8 percent, 5.8 percent and 9.6 percent, up 2.0, 1.4 and 7.6 percentage points year-on-year. The loan balance in RMB and foreign currency grew by 10.4 percent, up 4.9 percentage points year-on-year. The general public budgetary revenue grew by 5.4 percent, ranking among the top in Jiangsu province. Wuxi had 17 companies newly listed at domestic and foreign stock markets, ranking the 1st in the province, making the city’s total number of listed companies to 112.
