With the cooperation of Laoshan district government, the Institute of Microelectronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS) and the Dawning Information Industry Co Ltd, the signing ceremony for the settlement of the Qingdao EDA Centre in Laoshan district was held on April 9.

EDA stands for "electronic design automation".

The Qingdao EDA Centre is an indispensable and important platform for the development of the microelectronics industry. It provides IC design companies with neutral and open design, software, intellectual property, technical training and other public services.

It provides enterprises with an environment for solving common problems and thus promotes rapid formation of the integrated circuit industry chain; in doing so it helps Qingdao to achieve its development goal of becoming the "R & D leading edge of the microelectronics industry in the northern coastal comprehensive economic zone" and the "Qingdao Chip Valley".

Laoshan district is an important part of Qingdao's efforts to speed up the transformation of its old kinetic energy to new forms. It is the main support area for the city's wish to be known as "Qingdao Chip Valley", a wish that has already gathered a number of chip terminal application companies such as Haier, Hisense, and Goertek, and created a solid foundation for the development of an integrated circuit design industry in the city.

IMCAS is a national comprehensive research and development organization in the microelectronics and integrated research field. It is the pioneer of China's semiconductor and integrated circuit business. It has extensive experience and high-end technical strength in the construction and operation of open, networked electronic systems and one-stop EDA platforms for chip design.

As a leading enterprise in the fields of high-performance computing, servers, cloud computing and large data, Dawning Information is the director of the advanced computing technology innovation and industrialization alliance of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It will lead the establishment of the advanced microprocessor technology National Engineering Laboratory in a quest to break through the core technology of advanced microprocessors, improve the level of design and manufacture of high-end integrated circuits in China, and improve the security of information.

As China's home appliances and other electronic information products production base, as well as a traditional industrial base, in recent years Qingdao has focused on the deployment of sensors and the Internet of Things, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, Beidou navigation and other emerging industries in the electronic information industry chain, and now urgently needs to expand and strengthen the microelectronics industry in Laoshan.

The settlement of the Qingdao EDA Centre will provide a new engine and impetus for that development.
