A group of students from Taiwan went on a guided tour around Jiading district, Shanghai on Aug 5, visiting Guyi Garden, Robot.He restaurant, Tanyuan Garden, and Changxinglou.
The first stop Guyi Garden, located in Jiading's Nanxiang town, was founded in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It is one of the five ancient and classical gardens in Shanghai, and is rated as a national 4A level scenic spot.
The next stop was the Robot.He restaurant, where the meal ordering, cooking and dish serving are all done by machines or robots. It is founded by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.
Then, the students went to Tanyuan Garden, which is a private garden of Li Liufang, a litterateur, calligrapher and painter of the Ming Dynasty, and is situated in Jiading's Nanxiang town. The garden was destroyed during the changing from the Ming Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It was renovated in 2011 and opened to the public.
The last stop of this tour was Changxinglou, a restaurant on Nanxiang Old Street in Jiading district, where the students learnt under the guidance of masters from Changxinglou how to make Nanxiang xiaolongbao.
Nanxiang xiaolongbao, or Nanxiang steamed bun, is a traditional local snack, featuring thin skin, tender meat and juicy filling. It has a history of more than a century, originating during the reign of Emperor Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty.
Nanxiang xiaolongbao was selected among the first batch of Intangible Cultural Heritages of Shanghai.
