FAW Jiefang Automotive Co, hydrogen fuel cell company REFIRE, and BESTPATH (Shanghai) IoT Technology held an event to deliver 100 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (HFCV) and sign a cooperation agreement for 1,000 HFCVs in Shanghai's Jiading district on Aug 16.

According to the agreement, three sides will cooperate with each other to promote the long-term, stable and sustainable development of new energy commercial vehicles and accelerate the implementation of fuel cell commercial vehicle projects.

The company has been beefing up its efforts to develop hydrogen, pure electric, and hybrid powered vehicles in the past two years, said Li Yufeng, general manager of new energy department of FAW Jiefang Automotive Co.

As the company's most important demonstration and application city, Shanghai, especially its Jiading district, enjoys the most vehicle deliveries, Li said.

Facing the new challenges and opportunities in the automobile industry, Jiading district has been bolstering its efforts to develop the hydrogen and fuel cell industry, and has established a good industrial foundation and advantages, said Ge Yanyan, deputy director of the district's economic commission.

Jiading district has gathered more than 400 companies involved in "new four modernizations of electrification, intelligent networking, sharing, and internationalization" strategy for automobiles, of which 113 companies are above the designated size. The district has also formed the "new four modernizations” of the automobile industrial chain with domestic independent intellectual property rights.

In terms of the hydrogen and fuel cell sector, Jiading district is home to more than 80 hydrogen and fuel cell companies covering key materials, key components, fuel cell power systems, and other aspects.

In the first half of this year, despite hiccups caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Jiaidng district's automobile industry output value hit 152.64 billion yuan ($22.53 billion), accounting for 68.9 percent of the district's total industrial output value.
