Shanxi's smart tourism geo-information service platform will go online this March, according to the Shanxi Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geo-Information.
The geo-information will offer multiple functions, like panoramic images, 3D models and real-time information, which helps tourists access detailed information, transportation, and the local customs of each scenic spot in a simple and direct way.
According to the introduction, the platform covers the tourism geo-information data of the province's 11 cities, including basic geographic information and special tourism data. The six main factors in tourism, namely dining, accommodation, transportation, travel, shopping and entertainment, are all included in the platform’s tourism information database.
After logging into the platform, the users can not only inquire about travel information, but can also use its different functions. For example, through an online 3D virtual travel system, a user can experience the destination’s 3D virtual environment.
Moreover, scenic spots at the 4A level or above have their own 3D simulation models and panoramic data to showcase their overall charm. To date, the panoramic images are available for a total of 50 key scenic spots, including Hukou Waterfall, Mount Wutai and Yungang Grottoes.
Shanxi's smart tourism geo-information service platform was initiated in March 2013, then constructed by the province’s comprehensive geo-information center. By integrating Shanxi's basic geo-information data with its tourism resources information, it created a data hub of sceneries, tourism facilities, transportation and customs for tourists. Meanwhile, the platform provides local tourism organs with information regarding tourism resources location and development. It will also create a scientific basis for local tourism organs in making decisions for scenic spot planning and optimization.
