New center set to quickly handle traffic accidents

Pingyao established a service center on Oct 27 for quickly dealing with local traffic crashes in response to the increasing number of automobiles and minor accidents on the road.

Eight insurance companies, including the People's Insurance and China Life Insurance, will settle disputes using the center and provide financial aid to clients who make claims for damages related to traffic accidents.

"Our company will enhance services in clarifying liability and indemnity for accidents so as to help people retrieve their losses and reduce disputes over mishaps at the same time," said Zhang Jianjun, manager of the Pingyao branch of the People's Insurance Group.

Drivers can file claims at the service center by themselves if the loss resulting from road accidents costs less than 2,000 yuan ($295.19) or when both parties manage to reach an agreement even though the loss exceeds 2,000 yuan.

The establishment of the center simplifies the procedures for handling traffic accidents, allowing residents in Pingyao to receive compensation quickly, according to Yan Zhiwei, an official in the local traffic police department.

The new service center represents an innovation in coping with traffic problems by furthering effective cooperation and labor division between traffic departments and social insurance organizations, which avoids wasting labor, time and resources. In addition, locals involved in road accidents can get legal advice and support at the service center.
