To enhance further educational exchanges with universities in Hong Kong, Shanxi University president Jia Suotang recently led a delegation to the "Pearl of the Orient".

The delegation's first stop was City University of Hong Kong, which is among the world's top 100 universities, and enjoys a great reputation in Asia and worldwide. Last year, its chairman of the board Hu Xiaoming discussed cooperation on business principles with leaders from Shanxi University.

During Jia's return visit this time, both parties signed a formal academic cooperative agreement, putting the business strategy into practice.

Then Jia and his group went to The Open University of Hong Kong which is famous for its distance education and its openness to different groups. A series of discussion were held with both sides, agreeing to cooperate on further education.

Jia also paid a visit to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong Baptist University. Both universities expressed their willingness to provide full support to Shanxi University in terms of student and teacher cultivation as well as technology projects.

In addition, Jia also called on Shanxi University's old friend Fong Yun Wah, the chairman of Hip Shing Hong (Holdings) Company Limited, a prominent property developer and investor based in Hong Kong. As a patriotic entrepreneur and philanthropist, Fong donated 800,000 yuan ($122,800) to build a multimedia information resource center at the university on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
