SXU co-founds Confucius Institute with UNCC

Shanxi University (SXU) entered into an agreement with the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the United States, also known as UNC Charlotte, to co-found a Confucius Institute.

The agreement was signed during the 11th Confucius Institute Conference in Kunming, capital city of southwest China's Yunnan Province, between Dec 10 and 11, 2016.

Themed “innovation, cooperation, inclusion, and sharing”, the two-day event was focused on the exchange ideas and practices for Chinese language teaching between Chinese and foreign professionals to boost the progress of Confucius institutions. The conference has been staged annually for the past ten years. So far, a total of 511 Confucius Institutes have been established in over 140 countries around the globe with 5.1 million students enrolled in all. The Confucius Institute at UNCC was established with the joint efforts from Hanban in Beijing, China, and Shanxi University (SXU) in North China’s Shanxi province in a process that took less than a year. The institute will be rolled out into a stimulus to for SXU’s faculty and student exchanges and its international influence. It will run begin operations next year.
