Zhou Qiang, president of China’s Supreme People’s Court, urged the court authorities to facilitate litigation by the public through improving the application of information technology across the country’s court system on July 7.

He made the comment during his visit to the supreme court’s Information Center.

Zhou also said that by better using the information technology, the court authorities nationwide should make trials and judgments more open through closer links among the 3,500 courts at various levels.

He said that judges should improve services and interaction with the public, find a more service-oriented approach and better serve the public through adoption of information technologies.

The courts nationwide should make more efforts to collect information and data to make an accurate assessment of public needs and case handling. He also said that the speed of IT-filed cases should be increased by e-transmission and storage.

Zhou required the country’s courts to make their management more transparent and open and the authorities should help courts at grassroots levels to improve their working standards to better serve the local people.
