This article wishes to provide useful information and some points of reference about investment in Gwadar Port by Karamay enterprises.
Complex government management
The Islamic Republic of Pakistan is the full name of Pakistan. Because of historical, cultural, religious and societal issues, the political characteristics are “weak government, multi sects and big tribes”.
There are four main government sectors: the Gwadar port administration, GPA, which represents the government of Pakistan; the Gwadar Port Development Administration, the GDA, which represents the government of Baluchistan Province; the District Council, which represents local citizens; and the administrative department which represents Markland area.
The lion heart and powerful claw of Gwadar Port
The chairmen of GPA and GDA put Gwadar Port into “the Belt and Road strategy” – the total investment in the Pakistan-China economic corridor will reach 46 billion dollars. The highway from Kashgar to Gwadar Port will be opened to traffic in 2017. By the year 2030, the population of Gwadar will reach 500,000.
In the next 20 years, investments in oil refining and chemical industries, iron and steel manufacturing, cement, automobile assembly, and scale agriculture will be made in Gwadar Port, and huge infrastructure will be built there.
Full infrastructure with water, power, transportation and communication networks will be finished by 2017 or 2018.
Free trade area is the realistic platform in the short term
China Overseas Engineering Corporation (COVEC) is building a free trade area expected to be finished as early as 2017. Before that, in 2016, COVEC will build a smaller free trade test area which will enjoy the same policies as the 2017 area.
Enterprises from China may wish to invest in Gwadar Port through its friendly city, Karamay.
