I have to say, I wish American parents had half the enthusiasm of Chinese parents about education. Having said that, the Chinese education system is abysmal. Chinese people regularly complain how it is all memorization and teaching for the test. Chinese students are devoid of critical thinking, but can recite poetry, dates, and do math. This is the main reason why Chinese people are so good at math. It's black and white, there is no discussion. Ask about history, they will tell you what happened, but ask why and you will get blank stares. In China there is no why – and even the word for "why" 為什么 is very difficult to write.
