I live in Japan and some subway lines in Japan have women-only carriages running in the rush hours to counter groping in the cars by male perverts. Women are free to choose between women-only and mixed carriages while the trains are moving. Sometimes, when you're running to catch the train, guys enter the women-only cars, but so long as you move through to a mixed car right away, there's no problem.

I’ve lived in China for quite a considerable time including my graduate school years, travelled and worked in a few cities and still choose my destination taking into consideration the density of smog or PM2.5 particulate matter in the region.
