The Dalian International Garment & Textile Fair (CIGF) is one of the city's most celebrated events. The festival is listed as of one the top three international fashion festivals in China. Apart from Dalian, the other two fashion festivals are held in Beijing and Shanghai.
The first Dalian Fashion Show was held in 1988. Renamed “The Dalian International Fashion Show” in 1991, it is a showcase of the latest developments in world fashion, presented by companies from various countries and regions and sets the stage for a keenly contested competition among fashion designers and word-famous fashion models.
The fashion festival is organized every year and has been held 15 times. It has attracted numerous leaders and celebrities from throughout China and all over the world ever since its inception. The festival is usually held during the month of September every year and is held for about a week.
The festival over the years has grown by leaps and bounds. Numerous programs are organized during the festival, and the number of events has steadily risen.
The gala week-long event brings together designers, models from the commercial arena, fashion agents and fabric manufacturers from all over the world. The schedule of the festival is mainly comprised of numerous shows conducted by some of the world’s leading designers, who showcase their latest collections there. There are forums for dress and adornments, cultural seminars and a garment and fabric expo.
The fashion festival also features a city carnival where singers, dancers and musicians gather together to display their talents. The performers come together to perform at the grand opening ceremony of the festival, closure, parades and a number of rare shows.
The opening ceremony of The International Fashion Festival in Dalian is a grand event where more than 5,500 people perform. This large-scale event marks the first day of the festival. Some of the leading names in the world of fashion who have graced the International Festival with their designs include Ermenegildo Zegna, Les Copains and Etro from Italy.
