Dalian gov't vows to improve people’s livelihood

The Dalian government pledges to do more to safeguard and improve people’s livelihood, and to quicken the development of a comprehensive social welfare system in 2011, said Dalian Mayor Li Wancai.

He made the remarks while giving the Dalian government’s work report at the fourth session of the 14th Dalian People’s Congress in Dalian, Northeast China’s Liaoning province, on Tuesday.

After giving an assessment of the government’s efforts to improve citizen welfare in 2010, the mayor stated that the people’s welfare and social development are the most fundamental tasks and the ultimate goals of the government in 2011.

The local government will make more efforts to improve people’s living standards by increasing income and employment rates, ensuring social security and welfare, as well as subsidized housing and price stability, the mayor said.

The mayor also promised to improve the social undertakings system, for example, increasing support for cultural industries, education and health care, and strengthening dispute mediation systems to solve the conflicts at the grassroots level.

Other top concerns on the agenda include quickening the pace of Dalian’s overall urbanization, economic structure transformation and infrastructure construction, environmental protection, as well as building a service-oriented government.
