Liangjiang hosts SAIC-GM-Wuling completion ceremony

SAIC-GM-Wuling Chongqing base completion ceremony was hosted in Liangjiang New Area on December 14.
Huang Qifan, mayor of Chongqing Municipal Government; Ling Yuming, director of Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee; Zhong Zhihua, secretary-general of Chinese Academy of Engineering; and guests from SAIC-GM-Wuling three shareholders, suppliers, distributors, and workers' representatives attended the ceremony.
With a total investment of 6.6 billion yuan ($ 1.06 billion), SAIC-GM-Wuling Chongqing base covers an area of 1.6 million square meters, with an annual production capacity of 400,000 vehicles and 400,000 engines. The Chongqing base integrated resources and strengths from SAIC, GM, and Wuling tripartite shareholders, and learned the construction experience of building SAIC-GM-Wuling Liuzhou headquarter, Baojun base and Qingdao branch.
Shen Yang, general manager of SAIC-GM-Wuling said that the set-up of Chongqing base will not only boost the development of SAIC-GM-Wuling, but also makes its own contribution to the economic development of Chongqing and the southwest region. He also said that Chongqing has great automobile industry and environment, mature infrastructure, excellent human resources, and convenient transportation logistics and there’s why SAIC-GM-Wuling decided to set up the production base here.
Apart from SAIC-GM-Wuling, 16 supporting enterprises with a total investment of 3.4 billion yuan, and a total output value of 6.9 billion yuan settled in Liangjiang New Area as well.As of the end of November 2014, nine of them have settled in Longxing Industrial Development Zone. It’s expected that six of them will be put into operation from January to March 2015 and all of them will be put into operation by January 2016.
During the completion ceremony, SAIC-GM-Wuling Chongqing base phrase two cooperation agreement was signed. It’s estimated that Liangjiang New Area will produce 1.8 million cars and achieve an output value of 20 billion yuan of the auto industry by the end of this year. In 2015, Liangjiang New Area is expected to produce 2.3 million cars, and achieve auto an output value of 26 billion yuan of the auto industry.
