Gulangyu Island, located in Siming district, Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, is a famed historical international settlement that developed from the late 19th to the early 20th century. It became an important window for Sino-foreign cultural exchanges and fusion, and its architectural legacy combines styles from the East and the West.

Gulangyu Island has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2017. The island was also labeled the "Island of Music" by the Chinese Musicians' Association in 2002, as it has the highest per capita rate of piano ownership in China and more than 100 families involved in music.
