Unbeaten Titans beat Bears 21-14

Updated: 2008-11-10 10:49 CHICAGO - The Tennessee Titans won their ninth consecutive game this season on Sunday, beating the Chicago Bears 21-14 to remain the NFL's only undefeated team.
Veteran quarterback Kerry Collins passed for two touchdowns and LenDale White scored on a two-yard run to rally the Titans from a 7-0 deficit. Quarterback Rex Grossman, filling in for the injured Kyle Orton, put the Bears (5-4) on the scoreboard first with a five-yard touchdown pass to Matt Forte in the first quarter, then scored on a one-yard run in the fourth. By that stage, the Titans had taken a 21-7 lead after the 35-year-old Collins passed 10 yards to Bo Scaife in the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7. Collins then threw 12 yards to receiver Justin Gage in the third quarter to put Tennessee ahead. The victory was the 12th consecutive regular season win for the Titans over two seasons. Chicago's defence held the Titans to just 20 yards rushing but Collins connected on 30 of 41 passes to keep the Tennessee streak going. "It's nice to be able to win a ballgame and not play well," Titans coach Jeff Fisher told reporters. Chicago defensive back Nathan Vasher said the Titans defence had been the difference between the two sides. "They get turnovers. They play great defence. They stop the other team from running the ball," Vasher told reporters. "Whenever you do those things, you can be effective. "They don't look like a dominant team. But they keep winning games." Despite the loss, the Bears remained on top of the NFC North Division. "We couldn't get into a rhythm," Grossman said. "That was the big deal right there for the most part." Meanwhile, the New York Jets scored the franchise's most one-sided victory ever, beating the St. Louis Rams 47-3 behind running back Thomas Jones's three touchdowns. |
